The Port Harbor Railroad Delivers Pipe

The last of Pe Ben USA’s 1000 carloads of pipe arrive on the Port Harbor Railroad, January 2016

In January, the Port Harbor Railroad safely delivered the 1100th carload of steel pipe to Pe Ben USA’s transloading site at America’s Central Port in Granite City, IL. Delivered in blocks of 18 cars, the shipments of American-made pipe originated on the Union Pacific Railroad at Welspun Corporation’s Little Rock, AR, manufacturing facility and were shipped on 89’ flat cars that each carried up to 17 sections of pipe. At America’s Central Port, these pipes were transloaded from the Port Harbor Railroad to specialized trucks for final delivery. These oversize truck loads took advantage of the Port’s outstanding highway access via Illinois Route 3 to reach Interstate 270. The 1000th and final car completed a year-long project that was handled safely and on-time despite the unusually long and light sections of pipe.
