The Port Harbor Railroad is excited to report that this fall, America’s Central Port is completing construction of an additional 4.25 miles of track. This track includes two additional loop tracks in the facility, which will facilitate handling of either unit trains or carload freight. Construction also includes replacing track that allows PHRR to restore service to two more warehouse buildings, as well as provide outstanding access for direct rail-to-truck transloading of bulk commodities. An additional spur track will provide direct rail access to 60 acres available for development to new tenants. All of the track will be capable of handling 286,000 lb railcars. The full project was funded through a US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant and matched with a loan from Madison County (IL) Community Development. This improved rail access is all within a facility that provides 24-hour security protection, outstanding access to St. Louis-area highways, and direct access for rail-to-river transloading. The PHRR and these location opportunities are accessible via BNSF, CN, CSX, KCS, NS, and UP.
